When you get acrylic nails I know your nail will become a lot softer since they have to grind your natural nail down, but if you decide to stop getting acrylics will the natural nail eventually go back to its normal thickness?

Should I get acrylic nails for summer?
I really want acrylics but my school doesn't allow them so I want to get them for over the summer, but when I asked my mom she said maybe and my aunt said that it will hurt when I take them off because my nail will be all filed down. So I don't know what to do, there's a place near me that does them really cheap so money isn't a problem but I'm just worried that after having them on for 3 months it'll hurt when I have to take them off for school next year. im going to get my nails done on saturday for the first time so im a little unsure. ive just been reading that full acrylic nails can damage your real nails really badly and make them split? and thats worrying me so i wondered if just getting tips done was better? can you even just get tips done? like the tips of your nails be acrylic and not the whole thing? im generally a bit confused. i just dont want broken, unhealthy, SPLIT bleeding nails when i take them off?what about if i only had them on for say three weeks then took them off ? would that ruin them too?
